Do Previous Runs Indicate Who Will Win The Stayers' Hurdle?
BoyleSports assembled a panel of horse racing experts to preview all the upcoming action at the Cheltenham Festival.
The Host of the BoyleSports Cheltenham Preview Night was the Racing Post’s David Jennings who was joined by BoyleSports Racing Ambassador Robbie Power, Johnny Dineen of Upping The Ante, David Casey who is Assistant Trainer to Willie Mullins, Trainer Gavin Cromwell, and racing expert Tony Keenan.
This year’s renewal of the Stayers’ Hurdle looks to be a wide open race as the panel give their verdict on which horses they fancy to come out on top.

Robbie Power - Would prefer to ride Teahupoo @ 5/2
Johnny Dineen - Lean towards Irish Point @ 3/1
Stayers’ Hurdle Preview
Robbie Power: “Irish Point was visually impressive at Leopardstown at Christmas, but he beat a bunch of has-beens, it’s hard to make a big case for that form. Teahupoo beat Impaire Et Passe in the Hatton’s Grace although that form probably doesn’t look as strong as it did at the time. But he still had a good race and if I had my pick, I’d ride Teahupoo.”
David Casey: “Monkfish and Sir Gerhard both won last time out, although there’s a fair chance Monkfish will end up in the Gold Cup. Sir Gerhard could stay if we ride him to stay, but he has a lot of pace and if he’s ridden to be competitive, I wouldn’t be certain. It’s not the strongest renewal.”
Gavin Cromwell: “Of course I’d love to try to win again with Flooring Porter. He got a serious ride both times when he won this race from Danny Mullins – he probably got a bit of a freebie the first time and got a breather in at the right time, then I can’t believe they let him do it the second year. It’ll be difficult to beat Irish Point or Teahupoo. I haven’t decided yet but there’s still a good chance we will try it.”
