It’s another top class day of action on day two with the Champion Chase taking centre stage.

Phill Anderson has picked out four each-way selections for a Lucky15 on Wednesday.

 

Coral Cup - Langer Dan

Last year’s winner, Langer Dan, has somehow got back down to last year’s winning handicap mark and he’ll be hard to keep out of the first four with a bounce back to form likely.

The trainer, Dan Skelton, has said that he’s not been the easiest horse to train but he also reported that Langer Dan is back in flying form in recent weeks and he can enhance his excellent Festival record.

Champion Chase - Captain Guinness

The feature race on day one might be a little bit more competitive than it looks on paper and one that can go well at a price is Captain Guinness.

He had an excuse at Leopardstown over Christmas and showed he was none the worse for that effort when staying on for third at the Dublin Racing Festival.

Henry de Bromhead’s charge was a cracking second in this race last year and the trainer has a real knack of getting his big guns primed for the second week of March.

Cross Country Chase - Galvin

**The Cross Country Chase has since been abandoned.

There’s an argument to say Galvin should be favourite for the Cross Country. He was reportedly only 80% when taking Delta Work into the trenches last year and that rival doesn’t arrive in the same form this time around.

Galvin showed his well being by finishing a five length fourth in a hurdle race over an insufficient trip last month and that run should put him spot on for this, a race that is much more appropriate for the staying chaser.

Grand Annual - Libberty Hunter

The hat-trick seeking Liberty Hunter has made a bright start to his career over fences and Evan Williams’ eight-year-old will relish the recent rain that has arrived at Cheltenham this week.

Liberty Hunter was still involved when coming down at Chepstow on his debut and he hasn’t looked back since, bolting up on soft in a novice handicap chase at Wincanton before seeing off Matata (ran in the Arkle on Tuesday) here on New Year’s Day on very testing ground.

Conditions should be in his favour again and the handicapper has let him off with a 7lb rise for that course success where he seemed to relish the hill. The front two pulled seven lengths clear of the third and there’s almost certainly more to come from him on just his fourth start over fences; he can take this on his way to bigger things.
